Job Title: RPA Engineer
Location: National (must be near to one of our Air IT Offices)
Reporting to: Automation Manager

RPA/Automation Engineer (Scripting & Workflow Focus)

We are looking for a practical automation engineer with strong scripting and programming skills. This role is not suitable for full-stack RPA engineers or robotics specialists. If your background is primarily in UiPath, Blue Prism, robotics, or large-enterprise RPA deployments, this position will not be the right fit. Instead, we want someone who thrives on lightweight scripting, hands-on problem solving, and building efficient automations without reliance on heavyweight frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and support automation workflows using scripting and selected automation tools to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to analyse existing processes, identify automation opportunities, and define requirements
  • Build and implement automation solutions that integrate smoothly with existing systems (without large-scale RPA platforms)
  • Conduct thorough testing to ensure accuracy, reliability, and adherence to specifications
  • Document automation processes clearly, including workflows, configurations, and procedures, to support knowledge sharing and incident management
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects that drive continuous improvement of business operations and automation platforms
  • Follow change management processes, ensuring testing and risk assessment before release

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
  • Appropriate Microsoft certifications
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Windows client and server scripting knowledge with demonstrable experience
  • PowerShell scripting experience across a large estate
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Azure
  • Practical, operational approach with willingness to engage in varied business activities
  • Strong analytical skills to assess processes and identify automation opportunities
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Confidence in liaising with stakeholders across the business
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with the Rewst RPA development platform
  • Prior experience in IT managed services or similar industry
  • Experience in administering and developing an RMM platform

Please note: This role is not intended for candidates with robotics, large-enterprise RPA engineering, or extensive UiPath/Blue Prism experience. We are specifically seeking scripting-focused professionals who can deliver lightweight, effective automation in a dynamic environment.
